Madu River is located in the south of Sri lanka near Galle. Madu Ganga is located near Balapitiya It was identified as a minor water course in village called Uragaha,before widening in to the Madu River lake at Balapitiya.The River then flows for a further about 04 km before draining into the Indian ocean.

Area of Madu Ganga :

This water land spread over 900 hectares of area and most of it covered with water .There are about 64 small Islands in the Madu River.The Magu Ganga are surrounding river are all swampy marshlands covered in Mangrove forests .The forest covers over 60 hectares.1 14 of the 24 species of mangroves are found in this area. The most important thing is that the mangroves play a huge part in preventing erosion.
